ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP- FALL 2015 - Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation (Philadelphia, PA)

Summary:

The Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation uses the sport of hockey to foster academic and personal excellence among at-risk students in Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ.  Primary learning opportunities include assisting with the development and delivery of academic programming and support at community centers throughout the Greater Philadelphia area.  Intern will also provide support to supplemental aspects of academic programming, including report card collection. Internship is conditional on the successful completion of a criminal background check.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Coordinate academic activities at community centers in the Philadelphia area including literacy initiatives, tutoring, homework help, and college/career readiness.
  • Build partnerships with local colleges and universities, elementary and high schools, and education focused non-profits.
  • Attend meetings, assist with internal and external inquiries, maintain databases, and conduct preliminary research.
  • Develop and implement Targeted Intervention program to assess and support youth at risk of dropping out of school.
  • Build and maintain relationships with youth and their families.

Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • The position requires strong problem solving skills, and candidates should be highly motivated to learn, research, and collaborate with academic staff
  • Candidates must be committed to the importance of education in helping young people be successful in life
  • Strong computer skills are needed
  • Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the student
  • Occasional night/weekend responsibilities and travel in the Greater Philadelphia area are required.

GAME NIGHT INTERNSHIP - Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation (Philadelphia, PA)

Responsibilities:

 

Primary learning opportunities include how to implement and execute various events for Snider Hockey including, but not limited to, functions at the Wells Fargo Complex, Snider Hockey’s various rink locations as well as other locations in the Philadelphia area. 

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 

  • Interns will attend 1-3 Flyers home games per week, staffing the Snider Hockey kiosk, promoting various items and upcoming foundation events.

  • Interns should be able to inform any fans what Snider Hockey is and what we do.

  • Address any inquires regarding Snider Hockey, which include but are not limited to; programming, volunteering, and donations (financial and equipment).

  • Must be at games at least half hour prior to doors opening (example: doors open at 5:30pm for a 7pm game, therefore, interns are asked to arrive by 5pm) and will be required to stay until the start of the 3rd period.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Development Officer.

    Qualifications:

     

    * College juniors, seniors or graduate students- both working for earned credits or just extra resume experience

    * Availability to work game days and special events will be required, which includes nights and weekends

    * Must demonstrate professionalism, a customer-first attitude and enthusiasm.

    * Strong computer, verbal and written communication skills

HOCKEY OPERATIONS INTERNSHIP- FALL 2015 - Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation (Philadelphia, PA)

Summary:

The Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation uses the sport of hockey to foster academic and personal excellence among at-risk students in Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ.  The Hockey Operations Intern will provide support to all Hockey Operations staff members to successfully prepare and deliver quality ice hockey and life skills programming to students at Snider Hockey ice rinks throughout the Philadelphia area. This position is open to students looking to gain well-rounded experience and exposure to aspects of the sports industry including Sports Management, Communications, Community Relations, and Coaching.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Preparing and executing on/off-ice activities and programming at Snider Hockey facilities throughout Philadelphia.
  • Assisting Hockey Operations staff in planning and coordinating Snider Hockey special events.
  • Providing administrative support by assisting with communications initiatives, recruiting activities, registration tasks, and conducting preliminary research.

OVERVIEW:

Students will learn to creatively and enthusiastically handle demands and function in a fast-paced, high-volume environment through exposure to the day-to-day operations of the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation and high-profile situations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

College juniors, seniors, or graduate students. Candidates with majors in Accounting, Finance, Business, Marketing, Communications, or Management are preferred. Job Description:

Business Development intern will be working alongside the digital media team in promoting the Philadelphia Flyers through business initiatives and content. The internship position includes but is not limited to editorial content, emails, video editing and graphic design. Interns will gain experiential learning in the sports industry. Candidates must be able to collaborate on projects, take direction, and manage workload in a timely manner. The ideal candidate would demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects from inception to completion in a fast-paced environment.

 

Part-time and full-time internships are available.  Both office hours (M-F 9-5) and game days/nights are required.

 

Duties may include:

  • Produce short video pieces for web use

Job Description:

The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, Virginia Beach’s world-class venue for performing arts, is looking for a college junior, senior, or graduate student to serve as an intern. The Fall Marketing internship will begin in August and continue through the beginning of December.

This position is unpaid.  Internship must be for college credit.

Intern Responsibilities:

·         Manage distribution of printed materials to local businesses, resorts, and restaurants

·         Manage online event calendar listings

·         Assist with social networking outreach including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube

·         Assist with creation of marquee information while managing current content

·         Serve as liaison to local high schools and colleges in an effort to increase awareness of Sandler Center performances

·         Assist with the Educational Database update (high school, college, and community organizations)

·         Work closely with the Marketing Coordinator and Education & Special Projects Coordinator on brochures, playbill, and Sponsorship fulfillment

·         Manage archives of previous playbills, news articles, and press releases

Minimum Requirements:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (including but not limited to):          

  • Assist Strategic Business Development in generating ideas for new business opportunities for each Comcast-Spectacor Business Unit.
  • Learn to identify new business opportunities through internal lead sources, industry publications, Venues Today database of existing venues, and general research.
  • Conduct necessary research to determine viability in each new business lead to include venue’s owner/operator; ticketing, food and beverage, commercial rights, and wifi providers; key contacts; venue specs; event load; contract expiration dates, etc.
  • Assist in making introductory call to establish key contact, introduce Comcast-Spectacor services, and determine if interest/opportunity exists.
  • Utilize Salesforce to upload key account and opportunities information to be distributed to Sales Rep – provide all information necessary to pursue lead
  • Develop clear understanding of services provided by Comcast-Spectacur Business Units including venue management, food and beverage, ticketing, commercial rights, and digital services. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be currently enrolled in either undergrad or graduate school

Work Environment:
• The duties of this position are performed primarily in doors in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal-to-moderate during non-event days and moderate-to-loud during event days.

Summary:  This internship will work closely with the USF Sun Dome Operations Department to learn and participate in the everyday operating of a multiuse facility with a focus on event management and operations.   

Intern objectives including (but not limited to):

  • Job-shadow all event and operations department managers and learn various areas of responsibility

  • Assist event and operations staff with research and implementation of various projects

  • Learn to provide excellent customer service during building events

  • Assist and take lead on certain building projects

  • Assist with venue conversion responsibilities

  • Participate in other projects as assigned

  • Assist in training of new intern rotations

    Qualifications:

Internship Description:
Comcast-Spectacor, owner and operator of the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, Global Spectrum Ovations Food Services, Paciolan, Front Row Marketing Services, and Flyers Skate Zone is looking for a full-time college student to serve as a Marketing Department Intern for events held at the Wells Fargo Center.

Requirements:
• Must be a college junior, senior or graduate student studying a related major
• Student is not required to receive college credits for this internship
• Financial compensation of $8/hour will be provided for this internship
• Travel and housing arrangements are the responsibility of the student.
• Availability to work nights and/or weekends when necessary.

Hours:
• Student must be available to work a maximum of 30 hours per week – including both office hours and event hours. Most events will occur on evenings and weekends.

The Complex Marketing Intern will:
• Learn to conduct and implement market research studies used to establish and execute effective marketing plans for events.
• Learn to develop and execute grassroots marketing campaigns promoting selected Wells Fargo Center events, with primary focus on the Wells Fargo Center family shows and concerts.
• Assisting the marketing staff at booths/tables at festivals, fairs and other events with high traffic to publicize the arena and our events
• Learn to pitch non-cash agreements with media outlets (print, radio and/or television) to promote Wells Fargo Center events.
• Assist with Public Relations efforts for events, including drafting and distribution of press releases and media advisories, gathering of news clips, creation and delivery of media drops, updating of media distribution lists, supervision of media at events, and brainstorming and execution of Public Relations events.
• Develop a marketing and public relations recap for events, based on feedback and effectiveness of marketing strategies used.
• Assist with social media efforts of the marketing department.
• Recognize and understand the components of sponsorship, sales and operations as it applies to the marketing and promotion of Wells Fargo center events.
• Participate in all supervised events, game-day activities, promotions and set-up.

VIDEO PRODUCTION INTERNSHIPS - FALL 2015 - Wells Fargo Center (Philadelphia, PA)

Qualifications:
• Open to college juniors, seniors and graduate students studying in a related concentration
• Ability to do basic video editing and graphics by utilizing Avid or similar editing platforms; Adobe Photoshop and/or AfterEffects preferred
• Strong Computer skills with a working knowledge of video production equipment: Cameras, teleprompter, lighting, microphones, etc.
• Familiarity with Control Room operations preferred
• Professional attitude and communications skills required

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Learn all aspects of our production facility and assist in various hands-on aspects of video production.
• Gain Control Room familiarity including routing and patching sources, Harris CG and ClickEfx Crossfire operations
• Required availability for 1 night/week and rotating weekends to attend Flyers or Sixers home games. All other teams are optional but strongly encouraged.
• Utilize Avid editing software to log footage, create DVD dubs and in-game graphics, learn how to “prep” the Control Room for game-nights
• Act as production assistant on video shoots—assist with lighting, camera set-up, green-screen or pipe-and-drape (if applicable), operate teleprompter, handle lavaliere microphones, log tape, etc.
• Video, internet or footage research for corporate and in-game projects
• Assist with set-up and strike of AV equipment within building
