Internships: Marketing
MARKETING INTERNSHIP - FALL 2015 - Chaifetz Arena (St. Loisu, MO)

Areas of Focus include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Assisting the Marketing and Group Sales departments for all upcoming shows, including various concerts and family shows

  • Under the close supervision of a regular employee, participate in grassroots marketing, including researching places to distribute flyers, hanging posters, and creating relationships with various retailers to promote events

  • Generating ideas and content for our online platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, emails blasts and the Chaifetz Arena website

  • Working with images from different tours and performers to create web graphics while learning and using Photoshop

  • Researching various events through cold calls, emails and internet searches

  • Accompanying the Director of Marketing and Group Sales Manager to various meetings with clients and industry professionals

  • Learning to coordinate group sales special pre-party events

  • Brainstorming and executing public relations event ideas

  • Gathering press clips via internet search and TVEyes and updating media contact lists

  • Learn to write and edit press releases for future events

  • Learn to use and update various databases and statistics (such as Salesforce, Email Blast percentages, and online ad revenues)

  • Learn to construct marketing and group sales plans

  • Under the close supervision of a regular employee, assist at the marketing table at public relations, promotional, and SLU Men’s Basketball games and other venue events

  • Learn / assist with event day responsibilities

  • Research market to locate potential group clients for upcoming events

  • Making calls to potential group clients for various events

  • Manage variety of in arena marketing assets

  • Perform additional duties and objectives as assigned

     

    Requirements: 

     

  • Open to college juniors, seniors, and graduate students seeking an internship (Financial compensation is available, and housing/transportation are the responsibility of the student)

  • Business, Communications, Sport Management or Marketing major preferred, but not required

  • Minimum GPA of 3.3

  • Prefer 10-20 hours per week during normal business hours with flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed

  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Photoshop

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

HOCKEY OPERATIONS INTERNSHIP - SUMMER 2015 - Ed Snider Youth Hockey (Philadelphia, PA)

Summary:

The Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation uses the sport of hockey to foster academic and personal excellence among at-risk students in Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ. Hockey Operations Interns will provide support to all Hockey Operations staff members to successfully prepare and deliver quality ice hockey and life skills programming to Snider Hockey students. This position is open to students looking to gain well-rounded experience and exposure to aspects of the Sports Industry including Sports Management, Communications, Community Relations, and Coaching.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Preparing and executing on/off-ice programming at Snider Hockey facilities throughout Philadelphia.
  • Assisting Hockey Operations staff with planning and coordinating Snider Hockey Summer Camps and special events.
  • Supervising students during transportation to and from summer camp activities.
  • Providing administrative support by assisting with communications initiatives, recruiting activities, registration tasks, and conducting preliminary research.
  • Performing other duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • Ice hockey experience is important but not mandatory.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Candidates should be highly motivated to learn and able to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the student.
  • Occasional night and/or weekend responsibilities and travel in the Greater Philadelphia area are required.

FINANCE INTERNSHIP - SUMMER 2015 - Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation (Philadelphia, PA)

OVERVIEW:

Students will learn to creatively and enthusiastically handle demands and function in a fast-paced, high-volume environment through exposure to the day-to-day operations of the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation and high-profile situations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

College juniors, seniors, or graduate students. Candidates with majors in Accounting, Finance, Business, Marketing, Communications, or Management are preferred. Working knowledge of MS Office applications preferred. No financial compensation is available and housing and transportation are the student’s responsibility.

INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES:

• Intern with the Snider Hockey Director of Finance and other staff with exposure to our fundraising and development functions, day-to-day finances, and with communications projects.

• Work with nonprofit accounting software, cash receipts and disbursements, the A/P process, and other accounting functions.

• Learn the preparation and coordination process for Snider Hockey events, including Flyers game night activities, and other events conducted by Comcast-Spectacor entities.

ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP - SUMMER 2015 - Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation (Philadelphia, PA)

Summary:

The Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation uses the sport of hockey to foster academic and personal excellence among at-risk students in Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ.  Primary learning opportunities include assisting with the development and delivery of academic programming and support at Snider Hockey facilities throughout the Greater Philadelphia area.  Intern will also provide support to supplemental aspects of academic programming, including report card collection. Internship is conditional on the successful completion of a criminal background check.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Coordinate academic activities at Snider Hockey facilities in the Philadelphia area including literacy initiatives, tutoring, homework help, and college/career readiness.
  • Build partnerships with local colleges and universities, elementary and high schools, and education focused non-profits.
  • Attend meetings, assist with internal and external inquiries, maintain databases, and conduct preliminary research.
  • Develop and implement Targeted Intervention program to assess and support youth at risk of dropping out of school.
  • Build and maintain relationships with youth and their families.

Qualifications/ Requirements:

  • The position requires strong problem solving skills, and candidates should be highly motivated to learn, research, and collaborate with academic staff

SPORTS TURF MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP 2015 - PHILADELPHIA UNION - PPL Park (Chester, PA)

Global Spectrum is currently accepting applications for their spring and summer 2015 Sports Turf Management Internship. PPL Park is the home field for The Philadelphia Union who is starting up their 6th MLS season this March. The grounds crew is responsible for the upkeep of the stadium field, seven acres of practice fields and the surrounding landscape.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities are to comply with the daily orders of the Sports Turf Manager and Assistant Manager pertaining to game and/or practice field maintenance and operations, which may include soccer, football, rugby, lacrosse, and concert events. This position will at times require moving from stadium operations to practice field maintenance.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform daily responsibilities of game field at PPL Park and practice site that include mowing, irrigation, cultural turfgrass practices, pesticide applications, field painting, equipment operation and maintenance.

  • Scout game field, stadium, and exterior grounds for problems and report issues to stadium management.

  • Assure the necessary event equipment (goals, benches, etc.) is set up and in good working condition.

  • Assist in the seasonal maintenance of the equipment fleet and ensure the proper maintenance is performed as needed in a timely manner.

  • The department may require holiday, weekend and evening work.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred college student with a focus in a Turf Management major or related field.

  • Must be able to work independently along with adapting to varied working crews.

  • Ability to work effectively with people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

  • Strong work ethic, time management, organization, and communication skills.

  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting 50lbs, climbing stairs, ladders, etc. and pulling tarps.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

General Statement of Duties: This position will work directly with the Marketing and Sales staff to market, promote, plan and work events at Pueblo Convention Center and Memorial Hall. MARKETING INTERNSHIP - SUMMER 2015 - Wells Fargo Center (Philadelphia, PA)

Internship Description:
Comcast-Spectacor, owner and operator of the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League, Global Spectrum Ovations Food Services, Paciolan, Front Row Marketing Services, and Flyers Skate Zone is looking for a full-time college student to serve as a Marketing Department Intern for events held at the Wells Fargo Center.

Requirements:
• Must be a college junior, senior or graduate student studying a related major
• Student is not required to receive college credits for this internship
• Financial compensation of $8/hour will be provided for this internship
• Travel and housing arrangements are the responsibility of the student.
• Availability to work nights and/or weekends when necessary.

Hours:
• Student must be available to work a maximum of 30 hours per week – including both office hours and event hours. Most events will occur on evenings and weekends.

The Complex Marketing Intern will:
• Learn to conduct and implement market research studies used to establish and execute effective marketing plans for events.
• Learn to develop and execute grassroots marketing campaigns promoting selected Wells Fargo Center events, with primary focus on the Wells Fargo Center family shows and concerts.
• Assisting the marketing staff at booths/tables at festivals, fairs and other events with high traffic to publicize the arena and our events
• Learn to pitch non-cash agreements with media outlets (print, radio and/or television) to promote Wells Fargo Center events.
• Assist with Public Relations efforts for events, including drafting and distribution of press releases and media advisories, gathering of news clips, creation and delivery of media drops, updating of media distribution lists, supervision of media at events, and brainstorming and execution of Public Relations events.
• Develop a marketing and public relations recap for events, based on feedback and effectiveness of marketing strategies used.
• Assist with social media efforts of the marketing department.
• Recognize and understand the components of sponsorship, sales and operations as it applies to the marketing and promotion of Wells Fargo center events.
• Participate in all supervised events, game-day activities, promotions and set-up.
• Opportunity to shadow other departments within the Wells Fargo Center.
• Assist marketing department with daily office tasks.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

VIDEO PRODUCTION INTERNSHIPS - SUMMER 2015 - Wells Fargo Center (Philadelphia, PA)

Qualifications:
• Open to college juniors, seniors and graduate students studying in a related concentration
• Ability to do basic video editing and graphics by utilizing Avid or similar editing platforms; Adobe Photoshop and/or AfterEffects preferred
• Strong Computer skills with a working knowledge of video production equipment: Cameras, teleprompter, lighting, microphones, etc.
• Familiarity with Control Room operations preferred
• Professional attitude and communications skills required

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Learn all aspects of our production facility and assist in various hands-on aspects of video production.
• Gain Control Room familiarity including routing and patching sources, Harris CG and ClickEfx Crossfire operations
• Required availability for 1 night/week and rotating weekends to attend Flyers or Sixers home games. All other teams are optional but strongly encouraged.
• Utilize Avid editing software to log footage, create DVD dubs and in-game graphics, learn how to “prep” the Control Room for game-nights
• Act as production assistant on video shoots—assist with lighting, camera set-up, green-screen or pipe-and-drape (if applicable), operate teleprompter, handle lavaliere microphones, log tape, etc.
• Video, internet or footage research for corporate and in-game projects
• Assist with set-up and strike of AV equipment within building
• Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned

EVENT SERVICES/GROUP SALES INTERNSHIP - Wells Fargo Center (Philadelphia, PA)

Hours: 30 – 35 per week, including Specific Event Nights/Weekends as required
Reports to: Sales and Marketing Coordinator

Qualifications:
•College Juniors or Seniors studying in related majors
•The internship is PAID however housing/transportation are the responsibility of the student
•Applicants must be willing to get involved in projects with varying degrees of difficulty, and work in a fast-paced environment.
