Type: Paid Internship - Fall 2014
General Statement of Duties: This position will work directly with the Marketing and Sales staff to market, promote, plan and work events at the Sears Centre Arena. This position will also research, create and implement various promotional and public relations efforts. This position will support the Sales Department efforts while performing other duties as assigned by the Marketing Manager.
Areas of Responsibility:
Assist in the development, implementation and review of the marketing plans and event budgets
Assist in the implementation and review of advertising/ media buying, promotions, public relations and group sales for events.
Assist in creating collateral materials such as print ads, promotional pieces, posters, press releases, schedules, calendars and various ticket brochures from concept to completion
Assist in escorting media at events, and various event day responsibilities
Brainstorm creative ideas to market events with other members of the department
Implement social networking campaigns to increase ticket sales
Gathering press clips
Coordinating marketing table at public relations, promotional, and venue events
Marketing research that will require making phone calls, faxing, emailing, searching the internet, and conducting meetings with various individuals within the market
Learn and participate in the day to day operations of the sales department in a public assembly facility
Assisting with grassroots marketing, including distribution of flyers, hanging posters, and creating relationships with various retailers to promote events *This will include hours outside of 9-5, M-F*
Qualifications and Requirements:
Open to college juniors, seniors and grad students seeking internship
Marketing/promotions, advertising or business related majors preferred
10-20 hours per week during normal business hours with flexibility to work nights / weekends as needed
Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and various social media sites
Strong leadership, organizational and computer skills required
Working knowledge of the Adobe Suite including Photoshop and InDesign preferred
Excellent communication skills
A winning, do-what-it-takes attitude and a desire to learn
MARKETING/PR INTERN - Ted Constant Convocation Center- Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA)
Job Title: Marketing/PR Intern
Reports To: Marketing Coordinator
Hours: Flexible hours based upon event schedule / needs; however optimal experience requires approximately 20 hours availability per week.
Compensation: Paid Internship; $8/ hr.
Summary: This internship will work closely with the Marketing/Public Relations Department to learn and participate in publicizing the facility and/or events through a variety of traditional and non-traditional means for the purpose of selling tickets, booking meeting facilities, and creating public awareness for the Ted Constant Convocation Center.
College juniors, seniors, or graduate students
Recommended for Sport Management, Marketing, Communications, Management, or Hospitality Majors
GPA of 3.5 or above highly desired
Active involvement in on campus civic and/or leadership activities highly desired
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required
Must possess working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Photoshop
Demonstrated attention to details
Must be self-motivated with a ‘can-do’ attitude and a strong desire to learn
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Position Functions & Learning Opportunities including (but not limited to):
Understand how to conduct marketing research through phone calls, emailing, searching the internet, and conducting meetings with various individuals within the market.
Assist in developing and implementing event marketing plans and promotions.
Participate in grassroots marketing, including distribution of flyers, hanging posters, and creating relationships with various retailers to promote events
Attend meetings which include brainstorming sessions and explain how to executing public relations event ideas
Draft and circulate press releases and media advisories
Work with Manager to learn how to create and deliver media drops
Assist department in gathering press clips
Responsible for updating media contact lists
Work Marketing table for public relations, promotional, and venue events *This may include hours outside of 9-5, M-F*
Perform variety of event day responsibilities within the Marketing Department
