Facility Operations/Security/Event Management: Event Operations/Management
EVENT MANAGER - General Motors Centre (Oshawa, ON)

Summary: This position is primarily responsible to prepare, advance and execute all events at the venue including all hockey, lacrosse and/or sporting events, live and/or special events. Responsible for the preparation, advancement of information and management of all events to the highest level of performance while working closely and in concert with all other departments, promoters, and key stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Advance each show / event with appropriate show promoter representative in a timely fashion
  • Communicates all event information to the appropriate Departments and staff in a timely fashion.
  • Gathers information from event’s Security Director regarding Event Security Plan; relays information to the Event Services Manager
  • Gathers accurate event seating information with the Box Office Manager and Operations Manager, and ensures that event set-ups are accurate and within applicable fire safety and building codes
  • Prepares and distributes Event Data Sheet to all staff and Departments in a timely fashion
  • Prepares post event report for all events coordinated.
  • Preparation of and submission of expenses for event settlement; attend settlement if required
  • Prepare Event estimates as assigned by General Manager or their designate
  • Executes other Operational duties as assigned
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of all applicable Collective Agreements (I.A.T.S.E. and/or S.E.I.U.) and work within their guidelines
  • Working with the Promoter Representative and/or Production Manager determine the appropriate I.A.T.S.E. labour call to safely and cost effective load in/set-up/work/load out the show/event.
  • Working in concert with the Event Services Manager, preparing Event Security Plan for each event, (with Event’s Security Director when applicable) executing Event Security Plan for each Event including the scheduling and hiring of in-house security, contract security and/or pay duty Police Officers
  • Preparing Post Event Report for all events coordinated
  • Developing and updating Supervisor’s and Event Services Manuals as applicable
  • Continually improving Department’s performance and reputation
  • Adhere to all building policies and protocols

NONESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by General Manager

Qualifications:

  • Min. 2-4 years event experience required with a professional/amateur sports team, including prior experience in event management and/or front of house services for live and/or special events, and sports.
  • Previous experience advancing events and loading-in/out.
  • Previous experience working with IATSE or related stagehand labour union is a plus.
  • Previous experience working with contracted security and/or off duty police.
  • Previous experience working within a unionized environment.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to problem solve in a fast paced environment
  • Superior interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work as a team player.
  • Ability to be a leader and manage work crews during events and changeovers.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, long days, holidays, nights & weekends.

Education / Training:

  • College Degree in Sport Management or other related field considered an asset.
  • Computer proficiency is required, including previous experience creating CAD maps (AutoCad).
  • Candidate should demonstrate strong organizational skills and be able to function in a multi-task environment.

MANAGER, FOOD & BEVERAGE - General Motors Centre (Oshawa, ON)

Summary: To be successful in this role you must have the ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment and have a proven track record of success. This positions oversees a full service restaurant, quick service concessions, and luxury suite and group room services, as well as fulfilling private and show caterings. The Food and Beverage Manager will be responsible for delivering food and services of the highest quality, be able to plan and execute all F&B menus/riders and/or caterings, work closely and collaboratively as a member of a multi departmental team of professionals, develop and nurture relationships with promoters, corporate sponsors and key stakeholders, lead and motivate staff, and develop and execute complex budgets.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead by example approach and manage all F&B day-to-day operations to the highest standards within budgeted guidelines
  • Maintain excellent levels of internal and external customer service and operational controls
  • Design exceptional innovative menus, purchase goods and continuously look to improve the departments operations to be as effective and efficient as possible
  • Identify and evaluate customers’ needs and respond proactively
  • Lead both unionized and non-unionized F&B team members by motivating, training, developing and appraising talented personnel
  • Establish budget targets, KPI’s, schedules, high level of standard, and comprehensive policies and procedures
  • Provide a two way communication and nurture an ownership environment with emphasis in motivation and teamwork on both a departmental and venue scale.
  • Comply with all venue health and safety policies and all Ministry of Labour, Health Department and AGCO regulations
  • Provide tracking of and management reports on sales results, productivity and departmental oversight items
  • Develop and nurture relationships with tenants, all other departments, corporate sponsors, promoters, suppliers, and key stakeholders

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of proven food and beverage management experience in a multi-faceted sports and entertainment or similar environment
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS (experience with ByPass POS Systems an asset)
  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
  • Detailed oriented with the ability to multitask
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills
  • Up to date with food and beverages trends and best practices
  • Proven track record of meeting financial targets and achieving revenue growth
  • Guest oriented and service minded
  • Continually improving Department’s performance and reputation
  • Ability to create and/or adhere to all building policies and protocols
  • Ability to work irregular hours, long days, holidays, nights & weekends.

Education / Training:

  • Culinary school diploma or degree in Food Service Management, Hospitality Administration, BA, or related field.
  • Concessions Manager Certificate from the National Association of Concessionaires
  • Nationally recognized, advanced food service sanitation training course certification.
  • Valid Food Handlers certificate

  • Joint Health and Safety Training (Parts 1 and 2), First Aid and CPR/AED considered assets
