Facility Operations/Security/Event Management: Engineering
ENGINEER - Iowa Events Center (Des Moines, IA)

SUMMARY:

Under general direction, performs advanced journey level and leadwork duties in the technical operation, maintenance and repair of steam generating boilers, electrical generating equipment and auxiliary systems, and centralized air-conditioning systems of a widely dispersed building complex with numerous individual physical plants; performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to…):

  • Oversees the operation, maintenance and repair of plant equipment and auxiliary systems; recommends operational methods and procedures

  • Operates diesel powered electrical generator to provide emergency electrical power during power outages or curtailment

  • Perform event related duties as assigned

  • Participates in the operation, maintenance and repair of equipment, minor electrical and plumbing repairs to expedite the return of equipment or auxiliary systems to operational status

  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment and auxiliary systems; oils and lubricates fans, motors, pumps and generators, cleans screens, strainers, burners and automatic controls

  • Track daily productivity via allocation sheets, daily logs and micro main.

  • Blows down the boilers to lower the concentration of suspended and dissolved solids of the water and to check the low water cutoff and automatic controls.

  • Communicate arrival, location and departure with lead Engineer

  • Makes chemical tests of boiler feed water to determine its’ alkalinity, chlorides, hardness and pH level, and to prevent scaling, pitting of boiler tubes and buildup of sludge deposits.

  • Clearly , effectively , and timely communicate work issues with staff

  • Repairs boilers, water pumps, fans and motors and replaces defective parts in accordance with provisions of prescribed preventative maintenance.

  • Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients

  • Exemplify the How You Doin philosophies

NON ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) preferred

  • Possession of a second-class, stationary engineer’s license strongly preferred

  • Two (2) or more years of education and or full time work experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of steam generating boilers, centralized air-conditioning or electrical power generating equipment and auxiliary systems

  • Possession of Universal CFC license highly desirable

  • Possession of a first-class, stationary engineer’s license is highly desirable

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Must have availability to work long hours, nights, weekends and holidays as needed

  • While performing duties of the job, the employee frequently lifts and moves facility equipment, supplies and/or tools.  Employee will constantly move about inside and outside various areas of the facility before/during/after events; position will require employee to frequently bend, stoop, or crouch in order to evaluate and inspect equipment and building infrastructure; employee will as needed, operate fork lift and or high lift in assessment of and maintenance of the building and equipment.  Employee will occasionally be required to identify or match colors/tones of wire, wood, paint or other equipment. Employee will occasionally operate a computer and other office devices such as calculators, copy machines and printers; employee will constantly communicate via radio, telephone, email and in-person with staff to exchange accurate information. Employee will frequently throughout maintenance, operations and business demands lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

    Work environment:

  • The duties of this position are performed primarily indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time.  The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate during non-event days and when not operating equipment and moderate to loud during event days when equipment is in operation.

Facility Operations/Security/Event Management: Maintenance
MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN - Iowa Events Center (Des Moines, IA)

 

SUMMARY:

Under general direction of engineering department; position will be responsible for various equipment and facility maintenance needs.  Position will also assist in variety of non-skilled engineering duties as events require.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to…):

§  Responsible for maintenance and repair of facility doors, hardware, millwork, seats, furniture, rails, staging, fixtures and associated equipment

§  Communicate arrival, location and departure with lead Engineer (day) or Changeover Supervisor (night)

§  Maintain accurate records of labor time, parts used, work accomplished through daily logs, micro main and allocation sheets.

§  Perform variety of corrective and preventive maintenance

§  Execute non-skilled engineer functions for events

§  Clearly, effectively and timely communicate work issues with Engineering and Operations staff

§  Read, interpret blueprints, specifications, show drawings, schematic manufacturer’s specifications and

other reference materials to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures

§  Assists with set-ups and changeover maintenance needs

§  Performs inspections to ensure proper safety on various equipment

§  Executes general repairs and adjustments to equipment used in building and maintenance work (emergency repairs as needs require)

§  Use and maintain various meters, test instruments, drills, saws, and other power and hand tools

§  Liaison between Engineering and Operations teams to facilitate shared use of specialized engineering tools

§  Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients

§  Exemplify the How You Doin philosophies

NON ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

§  Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: 

§  Demonstrated experience in general maintenance and repair of related building systems and equipment

§  High school diploma, GED or equivalent recommended

§  Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and meet tight deadlines with limited direction

§  Knowledge of essential tools and equipment used in maintaining building and equipment repairs

§  General familiarity with OSHA requirements desired

§  Strong attention to detail required

§  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing

§  Must be able to report for emergencies as needed

§  Open availability to work long hours, overnights, weekends and holidays
