GRAPHIC DESIGNER - Iowa Events Center (Des Moines, IA)

Individual is responsible for marketing the facility and events through creative design and implementation of marketing initiatives, with a focus on sales and increasing the professional image of the facility. This individual will constantly seek out new opportunities for the facility to increase its exposure in the marketplace through various channels.  Act as a brand manager for the facilities, ensuring each department reflects a consistent professional image in all outside correspondence, specifically in reference to promotional pieces.


  • Design and create venue promotion pieces, including but not limited to: Annual Report, wedding collateral, brochures, sales collateral, etc.
  • Update facility graphics with a focus on enhancing the customer experience
  • Assist in preparation and adhere to annual marketing budget
  • Day-of event assistance with pre-event promotions, photography and other elements as assigned
  • Participate in brainstorming meetings with the Marketing team
  • Assist all departments with creative and design elements to enhance venue's professional image
  • Update and monitor venue website
  • Act as Brand Manager for facility to ensure correspondence is professional & consistent in look and feel
  • Develop and keep current a photo library for facility and events
  • Supervise and evaluate department intern and part-time employee; partner with HR for postings and interviewing
  • Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients
  • Operate an in-house print shop for temporary venue signage needs


Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Graphic Design, Marketing, Public Relations, Sports studies or similar degree preferred

  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office applications and design programs including Adobe Suite applications (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects)
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate creative and original promotional ideas
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, and prioritize tasks from many different departments
  • Experience with video and photography a plus
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Must have demonstrated ability to perform effectively under stressful situations
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to function in a fast paced, high-pressure environment
  • Must be detail oriented, have strong organizational skills, and demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Exemplary customer service skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to travel as required; must provide own transportation
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including long hours, nights, weekends and holidays

Intellectual/Social demands:

While performing essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time constraints, frequently in moderate to high pressure situations. Position requires constant and consistent attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards with visual graphics and in print; including following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. Employees in this role will occasionally be in leadership role; this requires directing others either verbally or in writing to complete tasks in prescribed time frame.  This position also requires frequent use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration; greeting and directing clients verbally and in writing.  Employee must be able to recognize and resolve conflicts.  Must be have advanced skill with the English language verbally, reading and in writing to professionally exchange correspondence with clients.  Employee will frequently communicate via phone, email and in-person with others and exchange accurate information. This position requires employee to frequently work both independently or as part of a team.

Physical demands:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will frequently operate a computer and other office devices such as ticket equipment and software, laminator, calculators, telephones, copy machines, faxes and printers. Employee will frequently move about inside facility and occasionally outside the facility in various areas before/during/after events to direct clients/groups to desired locations.  Employee must constantly communicate via radio, telephone, email and in-person with others and exchange accurate information.  Employee frequently will be required due to printing demands and other business demands to lift up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 150 lbs.

Work environment:

The duties of this position are performed primarily indoors in an office environment. Employee will occasional go outdoors in the elements to assist clients or inspect outdoor signage. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate during non-event days and is moderate to loud when moving about the facility on event days.

Job Description: The Partnership Sales Manager is responsible for all corporate sales for the Iowa Events Center. This position is responsible for the sale of venue advertising, and sponsorships at the Iowa Events Center.  This individual will manage and coordinate activities of advertising sales to reach budget goals and generate revenue for the facility. 


  • Responsible for the prospecting, selling, cultivating and maintaining of corporate partnerships
  • Coordinate aspects of sales solicitation process including account lists and tracking
  • Responsible for creation/implementation of new ideas/opportunities that drive revenue
  • Manage internal and external sales process, reporting to facility general manager and VP of Spectra Partnerships
  • Responsible for achieving established sales goals and budgets as set by Vice President Partnerships
  • Creation of new client initiatives to better serve corporate partners
  • Budget requirements and compliance
  • Help in creation and development of sales presentation materials
  • Hold weekly sales meetings and create reporting system for General Manager
  • Completing and updating reporting and tracking systems
  • Work directly with other departments of Spectra Venue Management (marketing, operations, accounting, box office, tenant team personnel)
  • Must be able to work events on both nights and weekend
  • Other duties as appropriate for a department head


  • Minimum of Associates’ Degree; Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years business to business sale experience
  • Candidate should possess strong leadership and organizational skills and be able to function in a multi-task environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication is vital.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
