Marketing Manager - Mass Mutual Convention Center (Springfield, MA)

Summary: The Marketing Manager is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring marketing plans and budgets, as well as designing and implementing creative collateral to promote the revenue generating areas of the MassMutual Center; including Convention Center, Arena and signage elements. This individual will help manage, supervise and coordinate all the activities of the Marketing department to reach budget goals. The Marketing Manager will implement marketing plans, manage event advertising budgets and promotions and ensure successful sales campaigns for events. He/she is responsible for maintaining relationships with media partners, and overseeing the media buying and billing process. He/she is responsible for public relations, promotions & publicity for the venue and the events: concerts, sporting events, conventions and shows within the facility, while developing creative marketing campaigns that promote public/community awareness. Individual must be able to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, days, evenings, holidays, extended (long) workdays for an extended number of days as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with a major coursework in Marketing, PublicRelations, Business Administration, or other related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of increasingly responsible experience in marketing, preferably with a sports facility, convention center, performing arts facility or other multi-purpose public assembly facility
  • Knowledge of marketing and advertising, public relations and website maintenance.
  • Demonstrated proficienty in Microsoft Office applications and word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation, graphic design, PowerPoint and Internet software. ?
  • Familiarity with publishing software such as Microsoft Publisher, Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Familiarity with media buying and promotions.
  • Savvy in social media outlets and new trends.

Job Functions (including but not limited to):

Marketing:

  • Ensure the development, implementation and reconciliation of comprehensive marketing program
  • Develop, direct, coordinate and revie the strategic planfor providing marketing services
  • Create and fulfill social media and interactive campaigns for the venue and events.
  • Liase with promoters to market the facility
  • Explore non-traditional marketing opportunities for the facility and its events
  • Track, analyze and compare event sales information, as well as settlements for events
  • Manage event settlement packets, including collecting invoices, coding and creating a back-up packet
  • Manage day-to-day promotions and event activities
  • Plan meetings to negotiate and research advertising mediums
  • Prepare and implement marketing and public relations plans and recaps for the events
  • Research, implement and follow up on grassroots marketing
  • Maintain and manage the venues social media outlets and other interactive elements
  • Create and distribute email campaigns
  • Oversee grassroots program and collateral distribution
  • Create marketing plans for events being promoted at the facility in conjunction with a promoter, or on behalf of the facility
  • Program and up-dating both the outdoor and indoor marquees with news, information, paid sponsor's info, and up-coming events
  • Work directly with other departments to implement creative campaigns
  • Recruit, interview, select, train, motivate and evaluate interns
  • Promote HYD culture and principles within the department and facility
  • Perform all other duties as required

Media Buying:

  • Negotiate advertising and media-related sponsorship agreements
  • Negotiate deals and contracts successfully
  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships with contacts and media reps
  • Plan and negotiate paid TV, radio, print and outdoor advertising for various marketing campaigns
  • Solicit third party Sponsorship/Vendor programs to generate revenue for the building and shows while driving sales to retailer

Public Relations:

  • Plan, organize, lead and control public relations efforts for the facility
  • Manage public relations for the facility and events
  • Develop, edit and issue facility press releases
  • Develop, edit and issue event-related press releases
  • Collect and prepare daily press clips for the venue and events
  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships with contacts and media reps
  • Communicate with media partners, promoters, and entertainment agencies to maintain cooperative, positive relationships
  • Maintain and monitor a solid media relations program, including the creation of media releases and the coordination of interviews and media requests for information on the event, facility, or staff

Creative:

  • Develop collateral, including fliers, newsletters, posters, postcards, email blasts, group sales brochures, pocket schedules, etc

Interactive:

  • Oversee and up-date the organizations web-sites
  • Manage social media outlets including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube

•While performing duties of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time constraints and with moderate to high pressure situations. Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. Employees in this role will constantly be in leadership role; this requires directing others either verbally or in writing to complete tasks in prescribed time frame. This position also requires frequent use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with clients.

Physical demands:

•While performing duties of job, the employee constantly operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc; occasionally move about inside the office to access storage areas, cabinets and office machinery; constantly move about the facility during events to interact with and service clients; constantly communicate via telephone, email and in-person with others and exchange accurate information. Employee may occasionally be required due to business demands and event operations to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work environment:

•The duties of this position are usually performed indoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud to during event days and minimal during non-event days.
