SUMMER 2014 EVENT MANAGEMENT INTERN - Mass Mutual Center (Springfield, MA)

Internship Description:
As an intern at the MassMutual Center, you will learn through participating and assisting in a variety of events. This includes concerts, family shows, hockey games, basketball games, ice shows, trade shows, private parties, meetings and conventions.
As an intern in the Event Management department the intern will report to the Director of Events and the Event Managers.

Event Management Intern:
The Event Management Intern will assist the Event Manager and Coordinator in the planning and execution all events at the MassMutual Center. Duties include contacting clients, uploading information and details into the Ungerboeck Management System, designing floor plans using AutoCAD, estimating client expenses, generating final event settlements, working closely with all departments to relay essential event information, organizing all event information before during and after event and assist Event Manager and Coordinator all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:
• Must be a College Junior, Senior or Grad Student seeking an internship to earn academic credit from your college/university required
• Sport Management, Event Management, Marketing, Communications, Management, Hospitality and related majors preferred
• Flexibility to participate nights and weekends as needed
• Working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop preferred
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated
• A winning, do-what-it-takes attitude and a desire to learn
• Ability to keep up in a fast-paced environment

SUMMER 2014 MARKETING & GROUP SALES INTERN - Mass Mutual Center (Springfield, MA)

Reports To: Director of Marketing, Marketing Manager, and Group Sales Manager

Start/End Dates: Based on College/University Semester

Status:   Internship / Temporary; Unpaid / College Credit Required


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Marketing research that will require making phone calls, faxing, emailing, searching the internet, and conducting meetings with various individuals within the market
• Assist in developing and implementing event marketing plans and promotions
• Assisting with grassroots marketing, including distribution of flyers, hanging posters, and creating relationships with various retailers to promote events *This will include hours worked outside of 9-5, M-F*
• Brainstorming and executing public relations event ideas
• Drafting and circulating press releases and media advisories
• Creating and delivering media drops
• Gathering press clips
• Updating media contact lists
• Assisting with sponsorship sales and fulfillment of advertising contracts
• Coordinating marketing table at public relations, promotional, and venue events
• Various event day responsibilities
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

UTILITY WORKER (Housekeeping / Changeover) - Mass Mutual Center (Springfield, MA)

Reports to: Operations Manager, Changeover/ Cleaning Supervisor

Status: Full-Time; Hourly


Qualifications:

• Previous experience in Janitorial Maintenance.
• Ability to perform general labor; this position involves lifting, carrying and setting heavy equipment.
• Ability to follow basic instruction and direction.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Must have demonstrated ability to function in fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Experience in heavy public contact.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Essential Job Functions (including, but not limited to):

• Operate buffer, rider sweepers/ scrubbers, walk behind scrubbers, blowers, vacuums and other various equipment.
• Safely use cleaning chemicals and communicate proper cleaning procedures to staff.
• Comprehend and communicate clear instructions for event set ups
• Setup and breakdown of chairs, tables, other event seating, ice rink, stages, etc.
• Assist with weather related clean-up.
• Janitorial services, including but not limited to glass cleaning, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, mopping, emptying trash receptacles and recycling bins.
• Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
• Report all discrepancies or concerns to supervisors.
• Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations.
• Work in accordance with the standard operating procedures of the facility.
• Practice a high level of customer service.
• Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:
Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items ( up to approximately 50 lbs.), bending, standing, climbing and walking. Must be able to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, debris, dust, and trash.

Work Environment:
Routinely required to work indoors and outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is minimal to moderate during non-event times and moderate to loud during event times.
