SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision from the Director of Operations or Building Services Supervisor, Building Services Workers perform custodial, housekeeping and light maintenance tasks as assigned. In the absence of the Director of Operations or Lead Worker, Building Services Workers may receive instruction from the Event Services Supervisor, Event Manager or Manager on Duty.

Job Duties: (include, but are not limited to…)

  • Work from general instructions, specifications and checklists.
  • Daily inspection of areas of responsibility
  • Maintain exterior of facility.  Tasks include picking up trash, emptying trash cans and sweeping parking lots.
  • Sweep, mop, scrub and wax floors
  • Wash walls, windows, stainless steel, counter tops and woodwork.
  • Clean restrooms and replenish supplies
  • Remove stains, clean and extract carpet
  • Dust, polish, arrange and move furniture and equipment
  • Remove trash and waste
  • Sort recyclables
  • Use hand tools or small powered equipment applicable to the work being performed
  • Perform facility and equipment maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Report defective equipment, facility damage, areas of the facility requiring cleaning to supervisor in an timely manner
  • Inventory and order janitorial supplies and paper products
  • Remove and keep clear snow and ice from sidewalks and stairs
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

  • Perform other duties as required

  • Work schedules are determined by event activity.

Facility Operations/Security/Event Management: Event Operations/Management
EVENT MANAGER - Overland Park Convention Center (Overland Park, KS)

 SUMMARY:

The Event Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling events within the facility as assigned and monitors the logistical interfacing of these events, to include but not limited to preparing event outlines and scaled drawings of event areas and coordinating equipment distribution and event billing. The duties will include all event coordination tasks after events are booked through their conclusion. Ensures tenant requirements are met and facility rules, regulations, and policies are adhered to, by serving as a liaison between the facility and tenants; assists tenants in the planning of their own events; and performs related responsibilities as required. May be required to work odd or unusual hours.

 

JOB DUTIES: (including but not limited to)

 

  • Performs liaison duties between facility management and tenants.
  • Explains policies and procedures to tenants and the public.
  • Acts as a consultant to tenants, providing expertise regarding facility's technical capabilities for a professional presentation.
  • Prepares facilities for tenant use by obtaining appropriate information and requirements from tenant and prepares work orders for distribution to proper staff offices.
  • Receives and responds to complaints from tenants and the public or refers them to the Director of Events or one of the section supervisors.
  • Monitors assigned event requirements as interfaced with other events and activities scheduled in the facility.
  • Prepares and distributes CAD drawings illustrating event set-up requirements.
  • Presents event?related information in a concise, professional, and accurate manner as required.
  • Makes necessary arrangements for users of the facility to assure proper functioning of scheduled events.
  • Plans and coordinates new events and promotions for the facility.
  • Schedule staffing needs for ticket office when event requires it.
  • Complete labor allocation sheets for event staff.
  • Assists promoters, when Director is absent, in determining ticket prices or establishes ticket prices necessary to achieve desired level of revenue.
  • Responsible from the point of contract through final settlement for liaison between tenants, the public and facility management prior to and during events, to see that facilities, equipment, physical set?up and personnel provided meet the requirements of the event and the tenant's contractual agreements.
  • Plans, organizes, and maintains a productive work schedule as required by events assigned by the Director of Events.
  • Interacts with other facility staff in a courteous, cooperative, and professional manner.
  • Assures that area set?ups are in accordance with lessee agreements, safety, fire, and health codes and procedures.
  • Makes or arranges for last?minute adjustments in room or equipment set?ups at the request of lessee or to assure compliance with safety measures and prepares accurate statement of additional charges.
  • Functional supervision of all event support staff including set?up crews.
  • Notifies Operations Manager of facilities or equipment in need of repair or replacement.
  • Prepares event reports noting attendance, times, significant problems, etc.   
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned by the Director of Events.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Graduation from an accredited university or college with emphasis on management, event management or other related fields. Additional years experience may serve as substitute on a basis of two years experience for one year of college.
  • Two years experience in a related field highly desirable. As a unique position with job requirements specifically designed for the convention center application, other characteristics of applicants may be considered in lieu of experience, particularly ability to work with people, sound skills in planning, organizing, math or drafting, and leadership quality.

Summary:
Global Spectrum seeks skilled, motivated and reliable individuals to fill the partl time position of Showcare/Setup Worker for the Overland Park Convention Center. Under direct supervision from an Event Services Supervisor, Event Services perform event set-up and tear down, custodial, housekeeping and light maintenance tasks as assigned. Other duties include, but are not limited to, operating various types of cleaning equipment, forklifts and scrubbers. In the absence of an Event Services Supervisor, Event Services may receive instruction from the Event Services Lead, Director of Events, Event Manager or Manager on Duty.

Requirements:
• Must have high school diploma or equivalent GED and must be able to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be available to work flexible hours and days including early morning, days, evenings, overnight, weekends and holidays
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time and lift objects up to 50 pounds

PART TIME SECURITY GUARD - GRAVEYARD SHIFT - Overland Park Convention Center (Overland Park, KS)

SUMMARY:     

Under direct supervision from the Security Supervisor, PT Security Agents provide general protection of facility property and personnel; monitor facility and protect against fire, damage and theft; provide general information and assistance to facility guests. In the absence of the Security Supervisor, Security Agents may receive event-related instructions from Event Managers or general instructions from the Manager on Duty, Director of Operations or General Manager.

JOB DUTIES: (include, but are not limited to…)

  • Patrol assigned facility; lock and unlock doors as required; guard property against fire, theft and damage
  • Observe facilities and equipment for needed maintenance and repairs; recognize and report damage and safety hazards
  • Be aware of the location and use of emergency alarms and equipment; follow established procedures in case of fire, disorder or other emergency situation
  • Observe general public; provide general information, directions and assistance to facility guests; report suspicious behavior to Security Base; apply effective apprehension techniques as required
  • Maintain high degree of visibility and professionalism; respond to various situations, issues and requests for assistance; prepare incident reports in accordance with departmental standards
  • Assist medical personnel by directing traffic, crowd control and securing needed equipment

  • As Base Operator, ensure correct and orderly flow of event personnel from shift to shift; monitor and administer proper sign in/out policies; monitor security system and report abnormalities to the Director of Operations or Security Supervisor; take corrective actions when needed; maintain detailed and accurate notes in the daily log book; properly brief relief officer of occurrences during assigned shift
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Perform other duties as required

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

Knowledge Of:

  • Experience in using Microsoft Office software; experience in using the Lenel Security System (or other security monitoring system) is preferred

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision assists in performing responsible technical work within the Audio Visual Department; operates technical media equipment for events and performances at OPCC.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma and one year experience in audio visual and technical media coordination and operation, preferably in a convention, theater, arena or hotel environment.

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a Missouri driver’s license

Special Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of audio-visual equipment and electronic services in public assembly settings

  • Operational characteristics of events

  • Knowledge of personal computers and computerized audio-visual systems

  • Terminology used in entertainment/convention/public assembly settings

  • Relevant federal, state and local regulations

  • Ability to use tools and equipment properly and safely.           

RESPONSIBILITIES: (including, but not limited to):

  • Sets up, operate and tear down all in-house equipment and rented or client provided audio-visual equipment

Reports to:          Chief Engineer

 

SUMMARY:

Skilled mechanical work in the operation and maintenance of heating and/or air conditioning and accessory equipment in a major facility and related work as required. The engineer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the heating and/or air-conditioning and accessory equipment on an assigned shift. General assignments and standard operating instructions are established by a superior but employee is expected to perform routine work with no immediate supervision. Employee may supervise the work of semi-skilled helpers.

JOB DUTIES: (including but not limited to)

  • Starts pumps and adjusts valves.
  • Checks equipment for proper watch level, steam pressure and valve operation.
  • Operates and regulates compressors, fans, radiators, water heaters and water softeners.
  • Cleans and maintains pumps, screens, filters, strainers, pipes and other equipment.
  • Performs miscellaneous repair work incidental to operating duties.
  • Keeps records of operations, temperatures, pressures, fuel consumed etc.
  • Locates and replaces burned out lighting fixtures.
  • Assists in the set-up and take down of electrical needs for certain events.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and other work orders.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Good knowledge of the methods, principles and practices involved in the operation and maintenance of steam-generated equipment, ventilating and air-conditioning systems and similar equipment and machinery.
  • Skill in the use of standard hand tools used in the repair of boilers, pipes, valves and similar equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to prepare operating and related records.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of steam and various types of heating and air conditioning equipment.
  • Completion of high school or trade school.
