Reports to: AV Manager

Supervises: Exercises functional supervision over audio visual technical staff and skilled labor

SUMMARY:
Under general supervision from the AV Manager assists in supervising and performing responsible technical and administrative work within the Audio Visual Department; operates technical media equipment; coordinates the work of AV Technicians and skilled labor; serves as liaison between facility users and facility technical staff, for the OPCC.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree in Technical Theatre or related field
• One year experience in audio visual and technical media coordination and operation, preferably in a convention, theater, arena or hotel environment.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain a Kansas driver’s license

RESPONSIBILITIES: (including, but not limited to):

• Assists AV Manager in the daily operation of the OPCC Audio Visual Department and functions as lead department contact in his / her absence.
• Assists in the supervision of all full time and part time Media Services employees in the operation of equipment
• Assists and trains in the use of Audio Visual equipment.
• Maintains a comprehensive and thorough record of inventory.
• Sets up and operates all in-house equipment and operates rented or client provided audio-visual equipment
• Assists clients in pre-event planning and attends meetings taking accurate and concise notes regarding clients requests.
• Selects proper Audio Visual equipment to accomplish clients’ needs and prepares pricing proposals.
• Provides technical advising to other departments upon request
• Responsible for accurate billing of equipment and labor provided by the Media Services Department.
• Trouble-shoots complicated Media Services sound and lighting systems.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Operational characteristics of media equipment management, including, but not limited to, needs of users of large public assembly facilities and customer service practices
• Technical requirement, methods, equipment, materials, and or other systems as they apply to facility events including, but not limited to: principles of event staging and performance equipment, lighting and sound equipment, rigging safety, and audio visual equipment

• Recommend and implement goals, objectives, and practices for providing effective and efficient customer service
• Recognize media related challenges, analyze and identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of organizational objectives

SUMMARY:
Under general supervision from the AV Manager assists in supervising and performing responsible technical and administrative work within the Audio Visual Department; serves as liaison between facility users and facility technical staff, for the Overland Park Convention Center (OPCC).

• Bachelor Degree in Technical Theatre, Mass Media or related field
• Two years of experience in audio visual and technical media coordination and operation, preferably in a convention, theater, arena or hotel environment.
• Or high school diploma and three (3) years combine audio-visual and sales experience.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license

Special Knowledge of:
• Thorough knowledge of audio-visual equipment and electronic services in public assembly settings
• Principles and practices of media services

RESPONSIBILITIES: (including, but not limited to):

• Works with OPCC staff and clients in the pre-event planning stages of an event and prepares pricing proposals Also provides detailed information to the AV Operations team to make sure all items discussed with client are followed through on during the event..
• Within the Convention Center sales process, work closely with the Convention Center Sales and Event Management in all phases of their work including pre-event planning, room requirements, AV needs, AV up sells, Group Site Visits, pre-convention meetings, daily meetings, etc.
• Responsible for accurate billing of equipment and labor provided by the Audio Visual Department.
• Recommends new services and equipment to be state of the art and heighten revenue.
• Reviews all rental rates and recommends pricing adjustments accordingly.
• Contact Clients a minimum of 3 months prior to their event date. Through conversation gain their respect and trust and insure them that you will take care of their program’s AV needs. Gather information relevant to the program and review the groups’ conference goals including what they want to accomplish with the event. Build a requirement list based on their needs to include equipment and labor and prepare an Estimate. Suggest options and upgrades to the Client to make their program better while providing additional revenue. Do ROI calculations on show to include sub rental/labor costs to insure a profitable event. Meet with the Clients on all site visits. Work with AV Department Manager and Operations Manager during the event to insure a smooth flow of information and a successful meeting. Consistently meet with the Client during the event. After the event, insure that the invoicing is done correctly. Follow up with the Client for future business opportunities.
• May help set up and operate Audio Visual equipment and systems within the Center.
• Keeps accurate inventory of Audio Visual equipment.
• Assists AV Manager and Director of Event Services in the budgeting process.

Global Spectrum seeks skilled, motivated and reliable individuals to fill the full time position of Showcare/Setup Worker for the Overland Park Convention Center. Under direct supervision from an Event Services Supervisor, Event Services perform event set-up and tear down, custodial, housekeeping and light maintenance tasks as assigned. Other duties include, but are not limited to, operating various types of cleaning equipment, forklifts and scrubbers. In the absence of an Event Services Supervisor, Event Services may receive instruction from the Event Services Lead, Director of Events, Event Manager or Manager on Duty.

Requirements:
• Must have high school diploma or equivalent GED and must be able to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be available to work flexible hours and days including early morning, days, evenings, overnight, weekends and holidays
• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time and lift objects up to 50 pounds
• Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid Kansas or Missouri driver’s license or identification card
