DIRECTOR OF EVENTS & OPERATIONS - Salina Bicentennial Center (Salina, KS)

Location: Salina Bicentennial Center

Reports to: General Manager

Supervises: Event Manager, Event Security, Operations Coordinator, Maintenance, Setup & Housekeeping Staff

Status: Full-Time
 

SUMMARY:
The Director of Events & Operations is responsible for oversight of all facility events as well as the management, supervision and coordination of the maintenance and operations of the buildings, equipment and grounds; including the operation and maintenance of the mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems. Provides overall administrative planning, direction and policies to Event Manager and Operations Coordinator, assuring the highest quality of service to allow for the most efficient operation and servicing of events. Position provides highly responsible staff assistance to the General Manager.

JOB FUNCTIONS (including, but not limited to…):
• Assume management responsibility for all services and activities involved in the event / operations departments, including customer service program, housekeeping services, ground keeping and building systems upkeep (HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing)
• Select, train, motivate and evaluate supervisory staff. Provide or coordinate staff training. Work with employees to correct deficiencies. Implement discipline and termination procedures.
• Prepare departmental annual budget. Control and monitor departmental expenditures. Forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures. Implement adjustments as necessary.
• Submit and monitor yearly Capital Improvement Plan needs
• Oversee the setup of events; coordinate facility arrangements with concessionaires; direct and monitor the work of contractors, engineers, and architects on building projects
• Inspect facilities to ensure they are being maintained properly for events
• Order supplies and materials for maintenance programs within budget guidelines
• Coordinate with city liaison for construction and major projects
• Develop crowd management and event staffing plans with assistance from event manager
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
• Conduct planning and operational meetings as required to ensure smooth coordination of event activities
• Track, record and report labor allocations in all areas of functional responsibility for purposes of forecasting, benchmarking and budgeting
• Maintain hazardous material communication program
• Prepare and present regular staff reports and other related correspondence
• Work with other department directors in a variety of tasks
• Serve as Event Manager as needed
• Routinely serve as Manager on Duty
• Responsible for execution of and compliance with Union Contracts
• Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients
• Exemplify the How You Doin philosophies
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree or better from an accredited college or university with major coursework in facility management, event management or a related field.
• Minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in building maintenance in a stadium, arena, convention center or public assembly facility setting
• Minimum of two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in event management in a stadium, arena, convention center or public assembly facility setting
• Experience in the repair and maintenance of HVAC or related building systems
• Demonstrate superior interpersonal and organizational skills
• Possess valid driver’s license or have the ability to acquire
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
