SUMMER 2014 MARKETING INTERNSHIP - Santa Ana Star Center (Rio Rancho, NM)

Internship Description:

This is a sports and entertainment marketing internship for class credit with a wide variety of projects that encompass the event seasons at Santa Ana Star Center. This is your opportunity to see how an arena and marketing department works in a professional environment. The intern will learn how the marketing department completes department related tasks and projects necessary to increase overall ticket sales for events. The intern will have responsibilities with public relations including working special events, graphic design, pitching stories to media, assisting with press conferences, creative writing and other duties as assigned.

Hours Required:

Approximately 20-30 hours per week. The hours that are expected will vary each week. You are also
expected to attend weekly meetings as well as several of the events that take place at the Santa Ana Star Center. PLEASE NOTE: Many of these events take place on evenings, weekends and holidays.

Reports To: Director of Marketing

Qualifications & Requirements:

• College students working for earned credits who are interested in the Sports & Entertainment industry
• Put forth 20-30 hrs per week
• Junior or Senior standing in college
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel required
• Adobe PhotoShop, Illustrator and In-Design computer graphics experience helpful, but not required
• Strong writing and communication skills
• Applicant must be willing to get involved on projects with varying degrees of difficulty
• Ability to work in an exciting and fast-paced environment. Excellent oral communication and presentation skills required
• Work a variety of nightly events including concerts, family shows, football and basketball games, trade shows, and conventions
• Must be assertive, outgoing, creative, hard-working, resourceful, independent thinker who is greatly interested in working in Sports & Entertainment Marketing

Intern Duties:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Assist in promoting family shows, concerts and arena sporting events through marketing and sales efforts
• Assist with database updating and incoming calls pertaining to ticket orders and general questions
• Assist in the implementation of promotions before and during events such as tours, dinners, meet and greets, clinics, PR appearances, etc
• Develop and implement a grass roots campaign that promotes events held at Santa Ana Star Center
• Conduct non-cash deals with all media outlets in market (television, radio and print) that promote events
• Correspond with show promoters to negotiate approval on partnerships with local groups in the market, such as community groups, media drops, etc
• Assist Marketing Director in creating press releases and implementing media advisories that support any public relations events that you conduct
• Update community calendars of events with detailed information on each show at SASC
• Maintain Social Networking Sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc)
• Creative brainstorming of marketing strategies to reach the millennial generation
• Interact with building staff, tenant team, and other employees when working with various projects
• Assist in day-of-event operations for marketing, PR and group activities
• Assist Group Sales Manager on sales calls and participate in brainstorming sessions related to group sales marketing plan and budget
• Carry out other tasks as assigned to help achieve the overall goal of a successful season
