GENERAL MANAGER - Donald L. Tucker Civic Center (Tallahassee, FL)

SUMMARY: Responsible for overall management, promotion, and operation of the facility, including construction, purchasing, policy administration, booking, marketing, finance, sales, food and beverage, box office, advertising, security, production, maintenance, and related operations for an Arena. This position is responsible for the development, coordination and management of all aspects and strategies for the arena’s entertainment, sporting and all other events.  Gives direction to each department, as needed, through each department’s director and works in conjunction with Florida State University and the University’s Athletic Department.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Arrange for and otherwise book Events at the Arena, develop and maintain relationships with reputable promoters, local market contacts, agents and talent affiliates to attract concerts, shows, entertainment events, etc
  • Administration of specific plans and programs prescribed by corporate directives and client initiatives, to include: HR, Sales and Marketing, quality assurance, energy efficiency, safety/emergency procedures, crowd control and crisis management practices, community engagement and/or other areas as needed
  • Generate for client/corporate in a timely manner financial and other reports detailing the arena activities
  • Prepare a proposed annual Operating Budget and submit such proposed budget to client/corporate
  • Oversee day to day operation, ensuring technical and staff resource needs for all events, oversees plans for allocating those resources, and successfully manages their efficient implementation.
  • Ensure all agreements made regarding the Arena Facility are in compliance with the contract, state and federal law
  • Provide final approval for all contracts and agreement
  • Attend conferences and trade association meetings

Supervisory Job Functions:

Oversee and manage all aspects of the Facility staff, including but not limited to Operations, Marketing, Finance/Payroll, Security, Janitorial services, Box Office. Demonstrate leadership in words and actions, including training, assigning work, performance appraisal and corrective action, addressing issues head on. Liaison for Corporate and Florida State University.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or better from an accredited college or university in Business/Hospitality Management or related field.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years management experience in an Arena, Convention Center, Hotel or other similar public assembly facility
  • The ability to research, develop and maintain relationships with artist agents, artist management as well as local, regional and national promoters.
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of event solicitation and presentation, public relations, advertising and media relations and event planning, facility operations, budget preparation and personnel management
  • Ability to apply conflict resolution and problem-solving skills in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to express ideas clearly through both oral and written communication
  • Superior Sales and Marketing skills
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and control
  • Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and other federal, state or local laws and regulations
  • Effectively work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Sales & Marketing: Ticket Sales

SUMMARY: The Group Sales Coordinator is responsible for daily operations, including sales calls and making client appointments and achieving sales goals. Accountable for soliciting, managing, and maintaining Group Sales accounts. Markets and sells concerts, family shows, and sporting events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for sales, marketing, and solicitation of new business opportunities for Group Sales department at DLTCC
  • Promotes Group Sales for selected family shows, events and dinner packages
  • Assist in development and implementation all aspects of sales plan for family shows and selected events
  • Achieve/exceed assigned sales goals
  • Works with promoters on group sales plans and budgets
  • Assist with development and implementation of revenue and expense budget for group sales department
  • Track and manage weekly sales reports
  • Responsible for continuing development of Group Sales Department at DLTCC and creation of new revenue streams for department
  • Event day responsibilities as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College degree in Business Management, Marketing or equivalent related experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Must possess valid drivers license
  • Ability to handle a high volume of phone calls
  • Ability to work event nights/weekends as required
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Previous sales experience is preferred
  • Ability to travel as required, provide own transportation

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate and supervise conversions
  • Oversee hiring, training, scheduling and managing of changeover staff
  • Manage event support staff (stand-by, fire panel) during events
  • Assist Event Manager with event staff, customer service and crowd control
  • Prepare event-staffing sheets (postings, staff info sheets, etc.)
  • Assist with the daily maintenance operations of the building
  • Organize all storage rooms to be in neat and working order
  • Maintain all event equipment (staging, basketball equipment, etc)
  • Oversee opening or closing of facility for a move-in or move-out
  • Build and Maintain Tenant Relations
  • Assist in the purchasing of event equipment
  • Assist in the scheduling and approval of payroll through scheduling management program

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, facility management, or other related field
  • Experience with facility coordination and direct employee supervision
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with ability to function in a multi-task environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are vital
  • Ability to work beyond normal business hours as required, including but not limited to nights, weekends and holidays
  • Forklift and aerial lift certifications are necessary
