MANAGER, OPERATIONS/EVENTS - The Railyard (Lincoln, NE)

OVERVIEW:

To manage, supervise, and coordinate the day-to-day operations and events of the Plaza, including minor maintenance, changeovers, custodial/housekeeping, and event management overseeing all aspects of post-booking stage service delivery methods. Assures the highest quality service program to assure rebooking of events. Ensure efficiency by controlling departmental operating budget. Provide highly responsible staff assistance to General Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees overall daily operation and upkeep of the Plaza including the ice rink, as well as housekeeping and minor maintenance of the Public Market and kitchen equipment including reach in coolers and freezers, hood and stove
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for events and operations; meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures
  • Participate in the development and administration of the Operations budget; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary
  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors including pest control, security, staffing
  • Direct and monitor the work of contractors, engineers, and architects on building projects
  • Order supplies and materials within budget guidelines; receive and maintain supplies
  • Maintain hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets and required records and permits; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations
  • Act as building liaison with local government on facility related functions (City Codes, permits, licenses, etc)
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college/university in a related field required
  • Minimum of four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in the management of the events and operations teams including some supervisory experience
  • Strong knowledge of ice making strongly preferred
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and select holidays as required, in addition to traditional business hours
  • Capable of operating forklifts, pallet jack, sweepers, or other operational equipment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to prioritize and function in a fast-paced, high-pressure work environment
  • Must be self-motivated and have excellent organizational skills
  • Strong familiarity with OSHA requirements strongly preferred

  • While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is continuously asked to multi-task under time limits.  Position requires constant attention to precise details and accuracy of specified standards including: following simple to complex (more than 3 steps) instructions, and concentration which frequently extends beyond 30 minutes at a time. Employees in this role will constantly be in leadership role; this requires directing others either verbally or in writing to complete tasks in prescribed time frame.  This position also requires constant use of interpersonal skills including: ability to direct/motivate/inform staff and foster collaboration, being able to recognize and resolve conflicts, being able to openly communicate in writing and verbally with clients.

Physical demands:

  • While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee constantly operates a computer and other office devices such telephones, copy machines, fax machines, etc; occasionally moves about inside the office to access storage areas, cabinets and office machinery; constantly moves about the arena and event sites before, during and after events to service clients and supervise staff; constantly communicates via radio/walkie, telephone, email and in-person with others to exchange accurate information. Employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  As business or emergency situations require, employee may sporadically assist in lift/move 100 lbs.

Work environment:

  • The duties of this position are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors in the weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environments is usually moderate to loud during events and minimal during non-even times.
