SPRING 2010 INTERNSHIPS - Comcast-Spectacor (Philadelphia, PA)
Thank you for your interest in the Comcast-Spectacor Internship Program. If your ultimate ambition is a career in the sports and entertainment industry, this program is an excellent first step.
OUR MISSION:
To recruit and develop the finest individuals in the sports and entertainment industry. We recognize the importance of each individual and will promote his/her active role in the ultimate success of Comcast-Spectacor. WHY DO YOUR INTERNSHIP WITH COMCAST-SPECTACOR:
We believe that the internship is the cornerstone of a student’s professional preparation. It allows a student to apply classroom theories, concepts and prior experience in a practical, professional setting. We’ve structured our program accordingly.
DID YOU KNOW:

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Open to COLLEGE STUDENTS ONLY, Junior, Senior, and Graduate Students
- Must receive academic credit (students are required to provide documentation of receiving academic credit for the internship experience)
- NO financial compensation is available for any position
- NO interviews will be conducted by phone
- Travel and housing arrangements are the responsibility of the students
- Some game nights and/or weekends may be required
- Part-time or full-time opportunities available
OPEN POSITIONS:
ADVERTISING SALES
- Development of new concepts for advertising venues at the Wachovia Spectrum/Center
- Assist Advertising Sales Department staff with various individual projects involving research and design
- Active participation in the brainstorming sessions related to proposed projects
- File phone calls and answer inquiries
- Assist/coordinate special events and promotions
- Assist in fulfillment and servicing client sponsorship agreements
- Perform clerical duties as assigned
ARCHIVES
- Assist in the implementation of systems to record history of Flyers, 76ers, Phantoms, and Wachovia Complex events through audio, video, print, photography, and memorabilia
- Responsible for preservation of historical memorabilia
- Respond to internal and external request for historical material
- Assist in development of new ideas and upkeep of Flyers Experience display cases
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
BUILDING SERVICES
- Ordering supplies
- Updating employee files through the scheduling system
- Assistance in the coordination of department budgets
- Processing of health and welfare forms for local union
- Reporting estimates and event numbers to event coordinators
- Processing employee injury reports
- Processing information to public assistance programs
- Typing of correspondences, reports, and memos
- Answering phones, screening and directing callers, the handling of routine inquiries and taking messages
- General administrative support including faxing, coping, and the maintenance of files
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
CHARITIES
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of charity events for Flyers and Sixers
- Work all Flyers home games at Flyers Charities kiosk, selling items for charity, promoting upcoming charitable events, handling inquiries about programs such as the Flyers Charities License Plate program, Flyers Wives Carnival, various raffles and other charitable initiatives
- Assist in the preparation of the Flyers Wives Fight For Lives Carnival, held annually at the Wachovia Center. Fall interns are encouraged to extend their internship until the end of the Carnival (late February)
- Attend meetings, answer telephones, distribute mail, and assist with call-ins
- Assist in the solicitation, mailing, and distribution of Foundation fundraisers
- Merchandise and inventory control, and assist in solicitation of merchandise
- Occasional nights or weekends are required
- Perform all other duties as assigned
CHARITIES ACCOUNTING
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of charity events for Flyers and Sixers
- Work with Finance Manager on processing deposits, checks and accounting reconciliations, along with other record keeping duties
- Work all Flyers home games at Flyers Charities kiosk, selling items for charity, promoting upcoming charitable events, handling inquiries about programs such as the Flyers Charities License Plate program, Flyers Wives Carnival, various raffles and other charitable initiatives
- Assist in the preparation of the Flyers Wives Fight For Lives Carnival, held annually at the Wachovia Center. Fall interns are encouraged to extend their internship until the end of the Carnival (late February)
- Attend meetings, answer telephones, distribute mail, and assist with call-ins, take ticket orders
- Assist in the solicitation, mailing, and distribution of Carnival tickets and information
- Merchandise and inventory control, and assist in solicitation of merchandise
- Occasional nights or weekends are required
- Perform all other duties as assigned
CHARITIES GAME NIGHT
- Work all Flyers home games at Flyers Charities kiosk, selling items for charity, promoting upcoming charitable events, handling inquiries about programs such as the Flyers Charities License Plate program, Flyers Wives Carnival, various raffles and other charitable initiatives
- Help at Sixers Charities kiosk on occasion with special events or promotions
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of charity events for Flyers and Sixers
- Must be at games at least one hour prior to doors opening (example: doors open at 5:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. Flyers game, therefore, interns are asked to arrive by 4:30 p.m. to help set up)
- Occasional nights or weekends are required
- Interns that are able to work in the office prior to games may also:
- Assist in the preparation of the Flyers Wives Fight For Lives Carnival, held annually at the Wachovia Center, Fall interns are encouraged to extend their internship until the end of the Carnival (late February)
- Attend meetings, answer telephones, distribute mail, and assist with call-ins
- Assist in the solicitation, mailing, and distribution of Foundation fundraisers
- Merchandise and inventory control, and assist in solicitation of merchandise
- Perform all other duties as assigned
COMPLEX MARKETING
- Develop and oversee grassroots marketing campaigns on their campus promoting
- selected Wachovia Complex events with primary event focus study on the Wachovia Complex family shows and concerts
- Assisting in day-of-event operations associated with all Complex Marketing events
- Conducting demographics, psychographics research for various department projects
- Assisting marketing staff with various marketing projects involving research
DATABASE MARKETING AND RESEARCH
- Daily data cleansing of the customer database at Comcast Spectacor
- Participate in weekly departmental and staff meetings
- Manage and respond to messages from customers in the general company e-mail replies mailbox
- Update and maintain all email campaign results for all Comcast Spectacor entities, including 76ers, Flyers, Wings, Premium Services, Group Sales and the Wachovia Complex
- Responsible for the collection of game night data entry forms from the 76ers and Flyers
- Assist in recording, compiling and analyzing all data collected from customer surveys
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Optional: Opportunity to participate in the collection of In-Arena customer surveys
EVENT SERVICES/GROUP SALES
- Assist in promoting all Wachovia Spectrum/Center family shows and sporting events including Philadelphia 76ers, Flyers, Wings (Lacrosse), to Wachovia Spectrum/Center group customers
- Assist in promoting and implementing the Wachovia Spectrum/Center Public Tour Program
- Assist in researching target markets, creating promotional materials, and developing and implementing Event Services show promotions
- Assist in handling existing group or core customers
- Assisting clients in chow selection and processing orders
- Assist in updating and maintaining department database
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
FACILITY OPERATIONS
- Assist the operations department with event related activities
- Assist with creating a production book concerning events held at the Wachovia Spectrum/Center
- Maintain clear and precise reports on event activities
- Assist with changeover responsibilities
- Assist the operations staff with various projects involving research and design
- Perform all other duties as assigned
GLOBAL SPECTRUM CLIENT SERVICES
- Conduct market research and update regularly for projects
- Track all projects on a weekly basis
- Coordinate sales packets of company information to be sent to potential and existing clients
- Research venues, markets, competition, etc.
- Compile information on existing Global Spectrum managed facilities
- Assist with RFP production process (collate, bind, etc.)
- Provide administrative support including typing correspondence, faxing, photocopying, mail distribution, bulk mailings, filing, etc.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
HOSPITALITY
- Assist in coordination of entertainment & promotions within the hospitality areas for events, with a focus on the AT&T Pavilion
- Active participation in preparation and during events to help increase awareness of hospitality areas
- Assist premium services staff with various individual projects involving research and design
- Assist in creating and implementing a marketing plan for Holt's Cigar Club and Victor's Club as it pertains to membership sales
- Active participation in the "brainstorming" sessions related to proposed Hospitality projects
- Conduct research for entertainment requirements
- Perform all other duties as assigned
HUMAN RESOURCES
- Under direction of the Employment Administrator, promote and administer the Comcast-Spectacor Internship Program, including screening and referring candidates, and coordinating interviews
- Continuous communication/update of all relevant parties with regards to the Internship Program
- Plan and coordinate the Internship Orientation
- Provide support to Employment Administrator with screening incoming employment applications and resumes, including daily updates of database, and mailing responses
- Maintain and update internship files in an organized fashion
- Handle incoming calls and answer inquiries
- Assist Human Resources staff with various individual projects involving research and design
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
- Internet experience: Web Page design with journal script
- Programming experience: Microsoft access - Visual Basic 4.0
- Hardware experience: Novell Network Management
- Prepare computerized mailing lists and mailing labels
- Customize Lotus spreadsheets and write Lotus macros
- Write documentation for custom systems
- Assist in updating and maintaining department database
- Perform all other duties as assigned
PREMIUM MEMBERSHIPS
- Professionally answer incoming calls and handle routine inquiries on a per need basis
- Assist in marketing projects including the production of graphics pieces and development of programs
- Aid in the organization and data-entry for incoming concert and membership orders as well as the member database
- Enter information into customer data base and assist in organizing membership packages for new members
- Perform general office functions including, but not limited to: faxing, photocopying, mail distribution, bulk mailings, monitoring office supply inventory and all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
PREMIUM SEATING
- Assist in prospecting and targeting leads for account executives
- Cross-reference lists with current database information
- Assist in coordination of Premium Seating functions, such as special events/projects, off-site presentations, trade shows, open houses, and client relations
- Assist in coordination of reservation/lease agreements with account executives
- Maintain departmental filing system and current database for Wachovia Spectrum/Center information, paid customers and account executives clients/prospects
- Organize, prepare and maintain stock on all First Union Center sales information, i.e. fact sheets, renderings, brochures, etc. Print out and assemble fact sheets and brochures for mailings
- Responsible for inventory control on all Premium Seating supplies; coordinate storage/order supplies
- Assist in customer service/phone relations
- Perform minimal clerical duties and all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
PREMIUM SERVICES
- Facilitate the handling of sales / customer service for the Cadillac Grille
- Assist in customer service / phone relations / ticket orders
- Forming a sales database for Concerts/Family Shows/Sporting Events at the Wachovia Complex
- Provide assistance in processing and procuring parking and ticket orders
- Active participation in Wachovia Spectrum/Center events to familiarize and raise the knowledge of consumer interest and concern
- Assist premium services staff with various individual projects involving research and design
- Conduct mass mailings
- Active participation in the brainstorming sessions related to proposed premium services projects
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as assigned
SECURITY
- Help create and maintain a database that will produce employment evaluation outcomes
- Calculate Security & Services employee turnover stats
- Identify and contact individuals or groups with an interest in event staff employment
- Work closely with the Human Resources in the application process
- Schedule applicant interviews and assist in new hire orientation planning and implementation
- Help develop and maintain a database related to training and evaluation of new staff
- Conduct exit interviews
- Perform clerical duties as assigned
SPECTRUM ARENA, LP FINANCE
- Maintain data files
- Prepare bank reconciliations
- Analyze various G/L accounts
- Enter accounts payable invoices in the accounting system
- Assist with payroll editing on Krons time and attendance system
- Assist with preparation of payroll on Ceridian P/R system
- Perform clerical duties and responsibilities as assigned
WEB DEVELOPMENT
- Design ad banners and graphic elements for the kiosk interfaces and assist in updating website content through an admin.
- Assist in the development of interactive games and entertainment features
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned
