MARKETING MANAGER (TEMPORARY) - South Okanagan Events Centre (Penticton, BC)
ENTITY: Global Spectrum Facility Management
LOCATION: South Okanagan Events Centre (Penticton, BC, Canada)
STATUS: Temporary; One-year term with possible opportunity to relocate within Global Spectrum
REPORTS TO: Director of Marketing
SUPERVISES: Marketing/Groups Sales Coordinator and Marketing Interns
SUMMARY:
The Marketing Manager will promote upcoming events through internal advertising and marketing services, and through TV, radio, print and other mediums. This individual will develop and maintain the facility’s status as a world-class venue through the creation of collateral materials, website content, trade/industry advertising and successful event promotion. The Marketing Manager will also coordinate public relations and /or marketing efforts for the facility, events and Global Spectrum, including activities such as creating public awareness, developing public tour programs, promoting patron services programs, and participation in non-profit/charitable organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in marketing, public relations or other related field
Experience
- Minimum of 2-4 years of increasingly responsible experience in sales and/or marketing, preferably with a sports facility, convention center, performing arts facility or other multi-purpose public assembly facility
Ability To
- Develop, implement and reconcile comprehensive marketing programs
- Develop, maintain and coordinate advertising/sponsorship opportunities
- Plan, organize and coordinate public relations efforts for the facility
- Negotiate advertising and media-related sponsorship agreements
- Develop and issue press releases
- Analyze challenges, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of organizational objectives
- Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships with contacts and co-workers
- Work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, days, evenings, holidays, and extended (long) workdays for an extended number of days as needed

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, maintain and coordinate event and facility advertising programs and opportunities
- Develop and execute comprehensive grassroots marketing plans for events
- Prepare written proposals; reevaluate potential advertising value of marketing inventory; initiate contractual arrangement; prepare contracts; negotiate terms as required
- Prepare clear and concise advertising/marketing sponsorship inventory reports
- Assist in the implementation and administration of public relations model, as well as the planning, organization and coordination of public relations efforts for the facility and its events
- Develop and issue press releases and maintain media contact list and relationships
- Regularly generate reports to review the progress of public relations and marketing efforts
- Assist in developing marketing plans in an effort to generate revenue and provide added value to the event and/or promoter
- Solicitation and development of contracts and relevant sales materials; negotiations of agreement
- Manage and participate in the development and implementation of marketing goals, objectives, policies and priorities
- Create and place advertising media
- Maintain and create detailed media budgets, settlement reconciliations, and recap summaries for facility events
- Assist in the development and design of all facility advertising, marketing and collateral materials
- Assist Director of Marketing in the preparation of sales materials and, when appropriate, in the presentation of said materials and proposals
- Assist General Manager or other departments with marketing-related activities as needed
- Assist in the updating and maintenance of facility’s website, serving as liaison for all website related promotions, initiatives and issues
- Develop and maintain facility database and assist Director of Marketing with all database-related marketing
- Conduct industry-related studies and advertising; recommend modifications to marketing and public relations programs as appropriate
- Prepare and present staff reports and other related correspondence
- Act as Manager on Duty (MOD) for selected events
- Present weekly activity, event and sales status report to Director of Marketing and/or General Manager
- Assist Director of Marketing in the preparation of weekly corporate marketing report and participate in corporate marketing meetings and periodic conference calls
- Lead Database marketing efforts using Eloqua
- Manage all communication responses and reconcile data from marketing activities (web requests, customer service responses, web-based surveys, sign-ups for cyber club, etc.)
- Create and send email updates to Cyber Club members when appropriate
- Coordinate day of event activities and meet and greets
- Handle customer complaints and following through to ensure customer satisfaction
- Assist in the implementation and administration of public relations model, as well as the planning, organization and coordination of public relations efforts for the Penticton Vees
- Perform all other duties as assigned
